Steppingstone Lane Bridge Restoration Diary

  • January 2007: The arch is complete!
  • 5-19 August 2006: WRG spend a fortnight on site, erecting the bridge formers and bricklaying.
  • 20 November 2005: WRG carry out more clearance work. Plans are being drawn up for rebuild, which probably have to be from the foundations up.
  • May 2003: Excavation is complete. Plans from 1947 are obtained.
  • 15 March 2003: The bottom is reached.
  • 1 March 2003: The Kangol effect.
  • 15 February 2003: Pipe removed.
  • 25 January 2003: The wall comes down.
  • 11 January 2003: Uprooting the last of the trees.
  • 18 November 2002: A brief return to bridleway construction.
  • 14 September: North side of arch excavated down to towpath level. New pump ("Bernard") deployed for the first time. Update mid-October.
  • 3 August 2002: More storage is moved to site.
  • 27 July 2002: The tree stump is removed and the bridleway closed.
  • 25 May 2002: Excavation continues with the southwest corner and training walls.
  • 11 May 2002: Excavation begins! A great day.
  • 4 May 2002: The bridleway diversion is inspected and opened.
  • 13 April 2002: The bridleway diversion really is completed!
  • 2 March 2002: The bridleway diversion is completed.
  • 16 February 2002: The Big Blue Box is relocated ready for scalping-spreading to start.
  • 12 January 2002: More work on the temporary bridleway diversion.
  • 15 December 2001: Movement of equipment to site.
  • 24 November 2001: Completion of works intended for 17 November which were suspended due to equipment failure.
  • 17 November 2001: Work recommences. Movement of scalpings to site for diverted bridleway.
  • Foot-and-Mouth Diseases outbreak prevents further work until the Winter.
  • 17 February 2001: Preparations begin.
