West Vale Branch
Shrivenham, Watchfield and Bourton Parish Magazine Report
December 2003

The Branch volunteers have begun work on restoring the towpath from Station Road to Steppingstone Lane Bridge on the north side of the canal. Although we had only 5 stalwarts turn out for the last work-party in November, steady progress was made. When completed this will provide a stone surfaced, all weather path that can be incorporated in the Shrivenham Circular walk.

Progress at Steppingstone Lane Bridge is currently stalled, awaiting engineering concurrence from Oxfordshire County Council on the proposed design. It is hoped that we will gain this very shortly, enabling the bridge rebuild to begin.

Unfortunately, we have not made any progress on either of the two leases that we are currently pursuing with local Land Agents. This very unsatisfactory position is slowing down progress in several areas but, without these leases, we are unable to spend any charity funds on the restoration in those areas.

For more information or to volunteer assistance please come along to one of our meetings held in the Shrivenham Bowls Club, Martens Road, on the second Wednesday of every month at 8 p.m. You will be made very welcome. For those with a computer and Internet access please visit our Branch Web Site at www.westvalecanal.org.uk.
