West Vale Branch
Miscellany

This section will contain pages unrelated to the West Vale Branch or not part of its usual activities, but which I hope you will find interesting.

Ronquières Inclined Plane

We spent a week in Belgium a couple of years ago. We drove for a couple of hours to visit the inclined plane at Ronquières on the Charleroi Canal only to find the visitors' facilities closed, but it wasn't an entirely wasted trip. Click here for the full story.

Branch Tour of Millennium Projects

A small group of Branch members will be visiting several canal-related Millennium Projects in February 2002. It is hoped these will include the restoration of the Anderton Lift, the Ribble Link connecting the Lancaster Canal to the rest of the system, and the Falkirk Wheel linking the Glasgow & Edinburgh Union Canal and the Forth & Clyde Canal. A report of the trip will appear here.

The Building of the Bradford Canal: An Assessment of the Sources Available for an Understanding of the Factors Involved in the Building of the Bradford Canal: Economic, Personnel of Leeds and Liverpool, and Regional Development

I met my wife at Bradford University. For a local history dissertation she chose to write about the derelict, and almost disappeared, Bradford Canal. The article is perhaps a little "dry" (there are no piccies for starters!), but it is hoped that one or two people may find it interesting. Perhaps a search engine will point someone to it if they search for the Bradford Canal. Click here for the article.
