West Vale Branch
Dragonfly Branch Report
Summer 2005 (No.97)

Things have been pretty quiet here. Up to when the bird-nesting season started we had the  usual desperate battle with the towpath hedgerows, it really is quite a task keeping them trimmed back. We almost completed it in time but had to stop with just a hundred or so metres to go, they're top of the list for next winter. Then of course the grass starts to grow and we do like to keep the Canalside Park looking tidy and the paths clear for walkers so it was all hands to the mowers.

The summer workcamp from WRG at Steppingstone Bridge is still on, although a last minute hitch may mean a slight change of plans. We have several alternative ways forward depending on the skills of the volunteers, we should make significant progress.

Talking of progress reminds me of 'the leases', well again I have little progress to report, the one lease that stalled with the landlord requiring some last minute changes is hopefully now all agreed with two site meetings having taking place and is now waiting for document changes and the other is in the hands of the legal eagles haggling over procedures.

It is Shrivenham Fetes 25th Anniversary this year and the committee wish to make it a special event so we have decided to pull out all the stops and have a stall. We have only had a minor input or indeed none at all for several years because as the fete falls on August Bank Holiday Saturday our volunteers always seem to be away but that's not the case this year. We won the coveted 'best stall in fete' trophy about 10 years ago; it's time to have another go! We should have some good photos of the Bridge and the workcamp to display.
