Cemetery Path
We have recently completed the laying of a path from the Canalside Park to the cemetery. The path is approximately 150 yards long. Over 100 tons of stone has been laid over two weekends. The Branch's own mini-digger was used in conjunction with hired dumpers. The location of the path can be seen on this map which also gives a good idea of the area surrounding the canal at Shrivenham. It is hoped to make this map and other canal leaflets available as a high quality download in the near future.

The construction of the path was not without its mishaps, cups of tea and lighter moments. Click the thumbnails for larger pictures:

Dumper mishaps were a speciality. Phil was lucky not
to get a ducking here. Alan poses for the camera -
sorry, I meant to say "helps lighten the load prior to
pulling the dumper free". (Unfortuneately no pictures exist of Richard's greatest mishap - what a shame.)

Another ton of stone is
deftly delivered by
Richard. Graham can
only gaze in awe.*

A broken track on the mini-digger
caused problems early on.

Good Health & Safety
practice is essential.

The navvies' facilities are
second to none.*
